About Science Museum Delhi

History Of Science Museum Delhi
The National Science Centre or Science Museum Delhi serves as the northern zonal headquarters of the National Council of Science Museums. It came into existence due to a renewed focus on science popularisation during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure. With Science Centres already established in Kolkata, Bangalore, and Mumbai, there was a perceived need for a significant Centre in the nation’s capital, Delhi, in the northern region. In 1984, the construction efforts began earnestly to address this need. On 9th January 1992, the Centre was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, P.V. Narasimha Rao. The Science Centre is conveniently located between Gate No. 1 and 2 of the Pragati Maidan exhibition grounds on Bhairon Road opposite of Purana Qila in Delhi. The architectural design of the building was skillfully crafted by the renowned Indian architect, Achyut Kanvinde.
