About ISKCON Temple Delhi

ISKCON Temple Delhi, also known as Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir is a Vaishnav Temple dedicated to worship of the deities of Krishna and Radharani. The Temple was Inaugurated on 5 April 1998 by Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the presence of Sushma Swaraj and Former CM of Delhi Sahib Singh Verma. It has one of largest temple complexes in the entire country and is located at Hare Krishna Hills in the East of Kailash area of Delhi.

The outer complex of ISKCON Temple is decorated with intricate carvings and Stonework and also has many shops and fountains. Inside the main temple, the deities are adorned with rich clothes and Jewellery. The temple complex is a Centre for Vedic learning and organises many devotional lectures for devotees. The devotees in the temple can be seen chanting “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” which is the central theme in ISKCON Temple. ISKCON temple Delhi also organises multimedia shows displaying The Ramayana and The Mahabharata. The temple is home to the Largest Printed Version of The Bhagavad Gita, the Hindu religious scriptures. There is also an Art Gallery, library, bookstore, restaurants and plenty of other facilities.

Architecture Of ISKCON Temple Delhi

ISKCON Temple Delhi is a stunning example of modern temple architecture in India. The temple’s design incorporates elements of ancient Hindu temple architecture while also featuring modern construction techniques and materials. The entire temple complex is an architectural Marvel designed by Achyut Kavinde.

The temple’s exterior is primarily made of white marble. The use of marble allows the temple to reflect light and change colours throughout the day creating a dynamic and ever changing illusion. The temple’s most striking feature is its 90 feet tall dome which is supported by eight pillars, each decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures of various Hindu Deities. The dome’s interior is equally impressive with ornate paintings depicting scenes from the life of Lord Krishna and his Beloved Radha.

The ISKCON Temple Delhi comprises of six main sections that offers visitor a diverse range of experiences:

1. Temple: The main temple is located at the top of Hare Krishna Hills. It features impressive towers with latticed walls made from Marble, Wood and carved stone. It is the central location where Idols are established and worshipped throughout the day by rituals and Aartis.
2. The Centre for Vedic Studies: This section of the temple has various halls for seminars and classes on Vedic Philosophy. It also has a library (Library of Vedic Research).
3. The Centre for Vedic Performing Arts: The temple complex includes an open air Amphitheatre facing the main temple and is dedicated to hosting performances of traditional music and dance.
4. The Museum of Vedic Culture: There is a Museum in the ISKCON Temple Delhi which is known as Glory of India Vedic Culture Centre that uses multimedia technology to helps visitors in learning about Hindu Scriptures. The Bhagavad Gita Animatronics, Mahabharata experience, Ramayana Art Gallery and Bhagavata Purana exhibit offer unique visual and Interactive presentations.
5. Krishna Jayanti Park: This park is inspired from the tales of Krishna’s youthful adventures with milkmaids in lush gardens and grove. The Park also features ponds and Waterfalls that enhance its serene Ambiance.
6. The Ashram: It is a residential complex for Krishna devotees to stay and focus on studying and teaching Vedic literature and Lifestyle.

World’s Biggest Sacred Book At ISKCON Temple Delhi

On 26 February 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed this 800 KG Bhagavad Gita at ISKCON Temple in Delhi in the presence of Tridandi Sannyasi Gopal Krishna Goswami and India’s Cultural Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma. This Bhagavad Gita is the largest printed Sacred book of any religion in the World. The book Weighs 800 kg and measures 2.8 metres.
