The Garden of Five Senses Delhi is a beautiful and Unique public park located In Saket near the Mehrauli Heritage area of Delhi. This unique and refreshing outdoor Garden was developed by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) and was Built & Inaugurated in February 2003. History Of Garden Of Five Senses Delhi
The Garden of Five Senses Delhi is a modern public Garden located in Said-ul-Ajaib village, South Delhi, India. The Garden was conceptualised and developed by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) in collaboration with Delhi Government’s Department of Horticulture.
The idea of creating a garden that would appeal to all the five senses – sight, sound, taste, touch and smell wad first proposed by DTTDC in 1998. The aim was to create a space that would be not only visually stunning but also immersive, engaging all the senses. The construction of the garden started in 2000 and completed in 2003. The Garden was inaugurated in February 2003 by then Chief Minister of Delhi Ms. Sheila Dikshit.
Over the years, The Garden of five senses Delhi has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The garden has won several awards for its unique design and eco-friendly practices. It has also been recognised as one of the best public Gardens in Delhi.
Architecture Of Garden Of Five Senses Delhi
The Garden of five senses Delhi is not just a beautiful retreat but also a remarkable experience of modern architecture landscape. It was designed by Architect Pradeep Sachdeva. The Garden’s design is unique blend of traditional Indian elements and contemporary principles of landscape design.
At the entrance of the Garden, you will be greeted by two large stainless steel sculptures of Bird. The walls of the Garden is built by craftsmen from Rajasthan in Mughal Architectural Style. There is a Sculpture of elephants carved out of stone at the entrance of the Garden area. There is a paved, spiral walkaway that goes towards the Garden and on the right side of the spiral staircase, there is a Khas Bagh which is inspired from the Mughal Gardens. It features lush green lawns in four fold design with water tanks and fountains.
There is a Shopping Plaza and a food court on the other side of spiral walkaway that serves incredibly delicious food. You will come across a beautiful display of colourful flowers and bushes as you explore further into the Garden. This vast area of the park is decorated with nearly 200 rare and endangered species of exotic flowering plants which have been imported from distant land.
Just a short distance away, nestled among towering trees and dense wilderness, you’ll find a charming amphitheater with stone seats and grassy steps. This is the place where cultural events and workshops are held. There is also a small solar area that generates solar energy that powers most of the Garden’s function.
Replica Of The Mexican Mayan Labná Arc
The Government of India Unveiled the Replica of the Mexican Mayan Labná Arc at the Garden of Five Senses Delhi as a good Gesture to Mexico. The Labná Arch in Garden of Five Senses was Inaugurated on 16 September 2013 by the Chief Minister of New Delhi Sheila Dikshit and the Mexican Ambassador Jaime Nualart. This replica was constructed by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage. It was built using stones from Rajasthan which are similar to those found in Yucatan. The Arch also serves as the Centre to many cultural heritage.
