About Bannerghatta National Park
Bannerghatta National Park is a famous wildlife sanctuary located 22 km from Bangalore city. Opened in 1970, Bannerghatta National Park is famous for its lion and tiger safaris. The park is spread over an area of 104.27 Sq Km and features a wide variety of rare and endangered flora and fauna.
Bannerghatta National Park offers diverse attractions including a zoo, auditorium, museum, aquarium, safari and boating. The National Park houses a Butterfly Park established in 2006 by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka, University of Agricultural Sciences and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment. I
t covers 7.5 acres of land and features 20 different butterfly species. The park is covered by a polycarbonate roof to create a tropical and humid environment artificially. Additionally, there is a rescue centre which plays a huge role in saving wildlife by protecting endangered species.
