About Nehru Planetarium Delhi

The Nehru Planetarium Delhi is one of the five Planetariums that is named after India’s first Prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the great believer of Science and Technology. The Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi is located in the Teen Murti Bhawan and it is also known as the Nehru memorial museum and library. This building was previously served as the official residence of the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru but is now transformed into a museum in his honor. The other four planetariums are located in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore and Allahabad.

The Nehru planetarium in Delhi is equipped with advanced technology that allow visitors to experience the wonders of space and astronomy in a very interactive way. It offers several shows and exhibitions that showcases the mysteries of the Universe, the Solar system and the evolution of our planet.

The Main attraction of the Nehru Planetarium is its dome shaped theatre which is capable of stimulating a realistic view of the night sky with the help of a High tech projector that displays the stars and Celestial objects in their exact positions and movements. History Of Nehru Planetarium Delhi

The Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi was built by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund to promote the study of Astronomy in India. It was Inaugurated on 6th February 1984 by former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. The Nehru Planetarium is a popular destination not only for astronomers but also for Children who are curious to learn more about planets and stars in the sky. It is also equipped with advanced technology that allows visitors to experience the wonders of space and astronomy in an immersive and interactive way.

The Nehru Planetarium ensures that both its instrumental and informational content are regularly updated and regulated. The facility went underwent renovation and reopened again in 2010 with new attractions, prior to commonwealth Games. Due to its excellence, it has received the Queen’s Baton which is a prestigious honour.

Nehru Planetarium Delhi reopened for general public in 2010 after its renovations which costed around 11 crore with some new exciting additions. The Addition was a new optical star projector “Megastar” with which one can see around 2 millions star at a time. The Planetarium becomes a major attraction whenever Major eclipses occurs, the planetarium arranges solar filters, telescopes, projections boxes, etc. for people to see the eclipse.
