Nahargarh Fort Jaipur is situated on the Aravalli Hills, was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1734 as a summer retreat. The strong wall of the Nahargarh Fort stretched across the nearby hill till Jaigarh Fort. Nahargarh Fort forms a strong defence For Jaipur along with Jaigarh Fort and Amer Fort. The Fort was previously named ‘Sudarshangarh’ but later it became known as Nahargarh, meaning ‘abode of tigers’. It is said that the spirit of a Rathore ruler, Nahar Singh Bhomia hindered its construction until a temple for him was built inside the fort.
