The Lalbagh botanical Garden is spread over an area of 240 acres and was established by Hyder Ali in the 18th century and was later expanded by his son Tipu Sultan. It was commissioned by Hyder Ali in 1760 and later his Son Tipu Sultan completed it. Tipu Sultan expanded the garden and imported plants and trees from various parts of the world, including Persia, Afghanistan and France, Contributing to the botanical wealth of Lalbagh.
In 1856, the garden was declared as a Government Botanical Garden, signifying its importance as a centre for botanical research and conservation.
