About Shri Kalkaji Mandir Delhi
Shri Kalkaji mandir Delhi is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, another form of Maa Aadi Shakti. Located in the Kalkaji neighbourhood of Delhi, it is one of the most popular and revered temples in Delhi. The popularity of the temple can be ascertained from the fact that the surrounding region of the temple is known as Kalka. The main idol of the temple is a black stone statue of Ma Kali, which is said to be self-manifested.

The Legend Of Shri Kalkaji Mandir Delhi
Once upon a time, there were two demons who troubled the gods in the neighbourhood of where the Shri Kalkaji mandir is currently situated. The god asked Lord Brahma for help but he refused to help and asked them to visit Goddess Parvati. From Goddess Parvati’s mouth sprung Kaushki Devi, who defeated the two demons. But when Kaushki Devi was fighting with demons, the blood of demons fell on the ground and created thousands of more demons. Kaushki Devi fought bravely, but she was outnumbered, Goddess Parvati saw that her daughter was in danger, so she created Goddess Kali from her eyebrows.
Goddess Kali quickly slaughtered the demons and drank their blood as it was pouring out of their wounds and finally defeated them. It is believed that Goddess Kali manifested herself at the spot where the current Shri Kalkaji mandir stands. The temple is built in the place where Goddess Kali manifested herself and she is worshipped here as the chief divinity of the place.
History Of Shri Kalkaji Mandir Delhi
Shri Kalkaji mandir Delhi is believed to be around 2,000 years old. It is said to be built on the spot where Kali slew the demon Raktabija. There are various theories about the date of construction of this Kali temple. Historians believe that Marathas built Shri Kalkaji Mandir in 1764 AD. In 1816, around a century later, the Peshkar of Mughal King Akbar Shah II, Mirza Raja Kidar Nath added his own touch to the shrine. Various Dharamshalas were built by Hindu Bankers and merchants of Delhi around temples during the second half of the twentieth century.
Shri Kalkaji mandir is said to be built on the land of Shamlat Thok Brahmins and Thok Jogians who are also the pujari’s of the temple and perform Puja Sewa. It is believed that during the time of the Mahabharata, the Pandavas and Kauravas performed worship rituals at this temple. It is also believed that Goddess Kalka ji was born at the place where the mandir is situated.
